France, 1640: Cyrano, the charismatic swordsman-poet with the elongated schnozzle, is hopelessly in love with Roxane. She, in turn, confesses to Cyrano that she loves the handsome, albeit tongue-tied, Christian. The chivalrous Cyrano hides his true feelings, and instead conspires to help Christian woo Roxane by supplying his leaden tongue with romantic verse. Baltimore-born Michael Gordon directed this quintessential film version of Edmond Rostand's classic play. Jose Ferrer won a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the nasally endowed title character.

Tidbits:
In 1997, 38,136 Americans received rhinoplasty procedures.

Bio:
Jonathan Richman began playing guitar at age 15 in his hometown of Boston, MA, and within a year began performing publicly. In 1969 he moved to New York City, the home of his central musical influence, the Velvet Underground, where he worked odd jobs while trying to find a venue to perform his music. When this proved unsuccessful, he returned to Boston where he formed the first incarnation of the influential proto-punk band the Modern Lovers. Throughout the '70s, various versions of Modern Lovers recorded albums before Richman went solo in 1979. Since then, Richman has recorded in a wide range of musical styles including country and Latin inspired music sung entirely in Spanish. While he continues to record, Jonathan also works on music for motion pictures-most noticeably in the hit movie There's Something about Mary. He also recorded the music for the Maryland Film Festival 2000 feature A Sign From God.
