Renee
and Eric Unger are living a cozy life in small town Ohio;
their construction business is prospering and their first
child is on the way. When Eric's younger brother, Colson,
turns twenty-one and is released from juvenile prison after
serving five years for murder, he comes to live with them.
Renee's reluctance over inviting Colson into their home and
Eric's obsession with monitoring his little brother's every
move create tensions that are amplified by the specter of
the events of five years before, which no one will talk about.
Five Years deftly combines family drama with mystery
and thriller elements to examine how the decisions and events
from the past can continue to haunt. As Renee becomes more
involved in Colson's life she is drawn further into the events
that tore apart one family a half a decade ago and now threaten
to tear apart the happy life of the present. Powered by strong
performances, we watch as these characters' world unravels
as the mystery unfolds.
Five Years won the Best Feature Film award at the
2002 Victoria Independent Film and Video Festival.
