One of writer/director Jane Cusumano's last wishes was that her film would be seen and enjoyed and more importantly inspire filmmakers to follow their passion. Four weeks after completing What Matters Most, Jane Cusumano passed away from breast cancer.

The Maryland Film Festival is honored to fulfill her wish today. What Matters Most is the love story between Heather (played by Polly Cusumano-daughter of the director) and Lucas (played by Chad Allen who will want to make you see a James Dean movie as soon as possible) in a small West Texas town. Having known each other since childhood, they plan their happy future together BUT other forces will try and tear them apart. A domineering father, an unexpected pregnancy, and a near fatal injury all conspire to keep the destined lovers apart. Finally, at the darkest hour, Lucas realizes "what matters most."

What Matters Most won the award for Best Director at the Manhattan Global Film Festival and for Best Feature Film at the Win Femme Film Festival 2001.

Presented By: Polly Cusumano
