Known
for his flamboyant dress, crazed hunting trips, and brash behavior,
Jimmy Martin is the rebel figure of bluegrass music. Once a rhythm
guitar player for bluegrass pioneer, Bill Monroe, Martin helped
change the sound of bluegrass music, creating what has become
known as the 'high lonesome' sound. His music, his history, and
his on-and-offstage "loose cannon" personality make
Jimmy Martin a magnetic subject for a documentary, and first-time
filmmaker George Goehl follows Jimmy's day-to-day life, while
he recounts his life story and lifelong quest to reach his childhood
dream of becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville,
TN. As country music star Marty Stuart says, "Somewhere along
the way, moonshine and dynamite collided. The result is a three-chord
scholar and musical genius named Jimmy Martin. He's part preacher,
part prophet, and a card-carrying madman who is completely filled
with the musical holy ghost. Time spent with the King of Bluegrass
is not for the lily-livered or faint of heart."
