An unusual dark comedy featuring puppets and musical numbers.
Tuck is a somewhat unlikable alcoholic slacker who dreams of becoming
a groundbreaking storyteller on a public access TV puppet show.
In reality, he’s forced to wear plastic armor while working
the graveyard shift for a medieval theme roofing company. He divides
his free time between ex-girlfriends, a pet massage specialist,
and memories of his childhood with a beer-loving dad and the backyard
chainsaw-art sculptures that were his confidants. Tuck’s
luck takes a turn for the better when he finally meets a girl
that has more to offer than puppetry, only she claims to be attracted
to more adventurous types. In order to impress his new love interest,
Tuck takes up race car driving, but only after his drinking gives
him the courage he needs. Director Andrew McAllister’s eye
for visual experimentation adds to this already oddball ode to
drunken slackerdom.
