Before there was Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the
Caribbean, there was Tim Curry's over the top turn as Long John Silver
in Muppet Treasure Island, as the beloved Muppets take on Robert Louis
Steven's classic novel. When young Jim Hawkins is given a map to
untold treasure hidden on an island, he hires a ship to take him to
the booty. The ship is captained by the friendly Captain Smollett
(Kermit the Frog), but also on board is the evil, yet charming Long
John Silver.
Silver, of course, wants to get the treasure for himself, so once they
get to the island, he kidnaps Jim and his treasure map. Instead of
simply finding the rumored treasure, they discover that the island is
inhabited by an army of wild boars, led by Benjamina Gunn (Miss Piggy
in yet another star turn).
Packed with fun, adventure, and music (with score by Hans Zimmer and
songs by Barry Mann), the Muppets once again successfully update a
classic like only they can.
