This is the story of the end of life for five individuals. After being diagnosed with a terminal illness and entering a hospice program, they were given cameras to film the events that transpired. The result is a moving and personal portrait of what it means to die.

We witness powerful emotions - conflict, loss, reconciliation - as families come to terms with the inevitable. We also meet the members of the hospice staff whose job it is to enter these homes to provide not only what medical care can be done for the patient, but also to deal with the emotional issues of the family. Staff meetings allow us to see how they deal with their own emotions of working with terminal patients.

It's a topic that everyone has to confront, but no one likes to talk about. While the subject of death is certainly sobering, The End also offers a feeling of hope as with the help of the hospice workers, these patients are allowed to die with dignity.
